FrontPage FL2i Green focuses on renewable energy and environment, enabling workgroup and online community collaboration. The FL2i Environment Advisory Group defined that FL2i should offer tools for creating, developing and implementing specific, actionable recommendations that protect Florida’s natural environment in its transition to an ecologically sustainable economy. The Group recognized that efforts to improve and preserve the environment must consider the resulting social and economic impacts. The FL2i Green site is an open forum, and will allow for the expression of diverse opinions, covering a wide range of issues; from fish and wildlife conservation to habitat restoration and climate change. This effort seeks to attract partners that have a vested interest in energy efficiency strategies, including large organizations and corporations, ecology groups, politicians and government regulators. FL2i Green aims at evangelizing on the creation of a “green” culture, aware of soil and water conservation, greenhouse gas, waste management, green buildings, clean energy and telecommuting among other priorities to protect our environment. The FL2i Green site also supports temporary but relevant and repetitive efforts such as the 2009 Miami Dade Coastal Cleanup photo contest and has the potential to provide a valuable tool for ocean conservancy activities in other Florida counties. FL2i Green offers a powerful collaboration resource to all workgroups involved with sustainable development projects, exposing an open perspective of stimulus funding available at federal and state levels to protect our environment and foster economic development. FL2i aims at evangelizing on new Web technologies and promoting the use of social media to reach out to Florida counties and cities, including its RACEC communities, to support economic recovery programs in Florida. FL2i tools can be very effective to collaborate in state programs (in particular, about Florida stimulus); educate on who qualifies and how to apply for funding; enable a direct channel to voice city and county representative's requirements and ideas without the need for traveling and making frequent conference calls; and offer transparency in the use of stimulus funds. Authorities at federal and state levels will define the metrics for measuring the results of stimulus programs funded by federal and state grants. Polls and surveys published on the FL2i Green site can be useful to collect support data around these metrics. Once stimulus projects are approved, FL2i Green members in each region can provide feedback on their progresss, complementing the information gathered by authorities and enabling an open and transparent communication channel to exchange experiences and comment on the impact that stimulus programs had on their communities. The success of the FL2i Green efforts can be measured by achieving the following goals:
The objective of the FL2i Green beta Social Network enabled by the Florida 2.0 Initiative (FL2i) is to provide a Web 2.0 tool to discuss, compile and assess information required to build a green-oriented culture and to help understand economic stimulus funding opportunities for a greener economy. This site can be used in the future to follow up on green efforts, the application of energy & environment stimulus funds and the compilation of measurable results, as green project deployments are taking place in Florida.
